In short

Brazilian comics, called quadrinhos or gibi, begin with Angelo Agostini's As Aventuras de Nhô Quim, published on 30 January 1869, a date now marked as the national comics day.

O Tico-Tico (1905) was the first Brazilian comic magazine, and from 1970 Mauricio de Sousa, creator of more than 200 characters, published Mônica's own comic book.
