In short

Italian comics are called fumetti.

Il Corriere dei Piccoli (1908) was the first mainstream comics publication, Topolino (1931) grew an Italian Disney school, and Gian Luigi Bonelli's Tex (1948) began a line of popular series that later included Dylan Dog (1986). Auteurs such as Hugo Pratt and Guido Crepax created Corto Maltese and Valentina in the 1960s.
