1917
Spanish comics are called tebeos, a word taken from the magazine TBO (1917 to 1983).
El Guerrero del Antifaz and Roberto Alcázar y Pedrín were the most popular series of the 1940s, El Capitán Trueno followed in 1956, and the 1980s brought an adult-comics boom with magazines such as El Víbora. Spain has a state Premio Nacional del Cómic.
